Listen to My Work

The Road Again

The Road Again is a song I wrote, engineered, and produced for my music project, The Hidden Gold.

It was recorded and mixed in my home studio in Victoria, BC, and features acoustic and electric guitar, bass, (virtual) drums, and other production elements. The sound of the recording is reminiscent of alternative rock from the '90s, a big inspiration of mine, and was mastered by Darryl Lee Wood at Capella Starway.

Why Can't I Get Over You

Linda Raine is a singer-songwriter out of Leamington, Ontario, and a part of my songwriting mastermind, Songfarm.

When she played a working version of Why Can't I Get Over You for us live on one of our virtual Songcircles, I expressed interest in working with her to record it. To my surprise, Linda reached out a couple of weeks later to see if I'd help her produce the song. We connected over Google Meet to review lyrics and structure, and after a couple of tweaks, I sent over a rough demo.

After agreeing on the final lyric and song form, I recorded the acoustic guitar, added drums, bass, organ, and a lead electric guitar. I sent a mix over to Linda, where she recorded the vocals remotely. After requesting a few more additional vocals, including doubling some of the vocal lines, I finalized the mix and production in my Victoria, BC studio, sending the final mix to Darryl Lee Wood of Capella Stairway to master it.

Fingers Crossed

Fingers Crossed is a song by Ruth Gabby, a Nigerian singer-songwriter. We met through a Songfarm event, and she asked if I would help her with the instrumental portion of this track.

We conferred over WhatsApp about lyrics and a couple of adjustments to the song structure, specifically phrasing in the verse. I recorded an acoustic guitar and a virtual MIDI piano as well as some strings. You can see a bit of how this song transformed from an Instagram video I made.

The vocals were recorded remotely by Ruth Gabby and were mixed by a third party, with drums being added later to the final production version.

Middleground

Maita Waters is a BC-based singer-songwriter. Middleground was recorded with a single microphone live off the floor back in February of 2020, when I lived in my Fort Street apartment. I've since moved to a much quieter spot.

'Til Morning

A song I composed, wrote, and recorded back in the fall of 2020 — along with some virtual strings :)
